Online construction safety training for BJF Group

construction health and safety awareness training

Construction safety training is a critical requirement for firms in the construction industry and leading building solutions company BJF Group are a great example of a forward thinking and innovative business in this sector who have embraced the benefits of online workforce training.

We caught up with Nicola Thacker from BJF to find out more about what her role entails and how deploying construction safety training via eLearning with the ClickHSE learning management system across the UK wide teams has made a positive impact for compliance.

AT&F - What does your role involve on a typical day?

Nicola - My role on a typical day is varied but mostly focused around training. I organise training on a daily basis as well as following up with team members when they have expired records and ask them to log on and complete what is needed or book in face to face training when required.

I am also responsible for our new starters and leavers making sure they have access to our platforms and going through any training they may need alongside booking inductions and other relevant checks.

I carry out other H&S or training admin tasks that are required on a day-to-day basis such as completing Health and Safety checks for any new suppliers, making sure staff have carried out their Health & Safety checks, Toolbox Talks & Site Inspections.

We work extremely hard behind the scenes at BJF to make sure everything is running smoothly for our clients and there is always work to be carried to make sure we have 100% compliance across our workforce with everything how it should be.

Can you briefly describe you workforce for our readers?

We currently have around 165 members of staff. We have a main head office based in Kent as well as site based staff and mobile operatives that work on construction, Facilities Management, Mechanical and Electrical and Refurbishment services throughout the country.

Why is health and safety training important to you?

Training is extremely important to us because when working in construction it is vital that our team have the correct training for the works that they are carrying out.

We have a fantastic Health & Safety team and keeping our colleagues safe is an critical part of our job. If we do not provide training and keep on top of our records, we are not providing a safe environment for our team.

So before you found our platform how did you provide training to your workforce?

Before finding ClickHSE we booked a variety of online training through a range of other providers.

Although it worked out this was extremely costly and took a lot of time to make bookings, receive certificates and then record everything centrally!

ClickHSE solved all of this for us a in one hit and has provided a really great system that is easy to use and efficient.

Why did you first look into online training?

We have always used online training but we had been looking for a better solution to our training needs for a while.

As a constantly growing business with operatives and projects spread right across the UK it was becoming more crucial we had a single integrated learning management system.

When you look at the high costs of ad-hoc training alongside the administrative time spent organising everything you can imagine how the overall costs mounts up.

When we came across the ClickHSE online training courses and cloud platform we were so impressed we decided to put a business-wide plan together to roll out to across our whole company.

How does our courses and platform provide benefits to you in your role and your organisation overall?

Using AT&F has had many benefits to our company.

I have listed a few below but I am sure there are many more. We are only at the start of our journey with you at AT&F and I am sure as time goes on we will find lots more exciting features that will benefit us.:

  • Saves a huge amount of valuable time

  • Cost-per-course dramatically cheaper than other providers

  • We can run instant company-wide reports

  • Centralises all our staff details and certificates (as an admin this means I can go in and download the certificates myself when i need to)

  • I am able to check who has started or accessed courses and who has not

  • Really easy-to-use both for myself and all our site staff

  • The courses are have all the training requirements needed

  • You can start and stop a course and it will save the bookmark where you are up to.

  • The courses do not expire so they do not have a time limit to complete

If there is the one thing you like most with ClickHSE what would it be?

For me the one thing I like the most is just how easy the platform is to use and navigate.

Some of our site operatives do not always use computers so having a platform that is easy to use means our team are not stressed and able to complete training which for us is extremely important.

Having a platform that runs so smoothly for us is a real find!

Thank you Nicola, before we sign off is there anything else that you would like to add… good or bad!

I would like to thank the amazing team who, especially in the beginning. were so patient with me. I asked a million questions and they always answered straight away!

To this day your support is always available when I need it most.

It is down to the fantastic team that this all works so effortlessly and because of this we continue to enjoy working with you so thank you.

Thanks Nicola, that is so good to hear and music to our ears. We wish you all at BJF the best and congratulate you for your approach to continued professional development and ensuring that the Health, safety and welfare of your employees is paramount.
