Winners of the LGC Awards -
west mids arson task force partners with AT&F SolutionsPREMIER AWARD FOR COUNTY COUNCIL

A pioneering Fire Safety Project, which has helped slash the risk of fires at Schools and Education Centers across Sandwell, received a top award at a previous 'prestigious Local Government Chronicle Awards'

The Fire Safety Project "A Spark that Initiated Change" was given an award by the Local Government Chronicle Magazine in its yearly award scheme. The LGC Awards are the most prestigious of all Local Government Awards available and are the 'Oscars' of Local Government. The submission was led by Education and Children's Service's Officers Pam Pulsford and Lorraine Jones along with Chris Williams from the Health and Safety Team.

When announcing the commended award host, and Television Personality Jimmy Carr said "This year there were hundreds of submissions for each of the awards. You are all excellent and already winners just by being here. These awards recognise that Local Authorities are pioneering and perfecting services which are making a real difference to peoples' lives".

"A Spark that Initiated Change" spearheaded a radical change of the approach and support given to schools and pupils by Education and Children's Services Officers.

AT&F Solutions produced a custom edition of their most popular fire training program 'In The Line Of Fire' for schools to help win this award. This unique online fire training module was a joint collaboration, and AT&F Solutions would like to thank all staff involved during the development. West Midlands Fire Arson Task Force has since gone on to support and endorse this training program by featuring it as part of their Keep Your School In Business campaign. Yet another brigade endorsement for 'In The Line Of Fire'

This project launched in January 2007 is designed to provide comprehensive arson, fire prevention and crime reduction advice to schools, combining Fire Service and Police information in an easy to read format.

KYSIB contains guidance to schools on carrying out their mandatory 'fire risk assessments' in order to comply with the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005 which became law on 1st October 2006. The guidance will be further revised subject to any future changes in the legislation.

Contained within the guide is all you need to know to make your school as risk free from fire as possible. By reducing the risk of accidental fires you also reduce the risk of arson.

Consider the facts:

  • 3 schools a day suffer a fire
  • up to 75% of these are attributed to arson
  • 50% of all school fires occur during school hours

WILL YOUR SCHOOL BE NEXT?

Don't become one of these statistics! Train your staff NOW......
